KIDS – TRASH BUSINESS

2 weeks ago – on a call with a client

doorbell rings. 3 little boys at my door. (hey, are you guys okay?) yes sir.

“let me get off this call and I’ll talk to you in just a minute, ok? – “yes sir”

Stepped back inside to finish the call. Few seconds later, door bell rings again.

I told my client I’d call them back.

Can we have $2 or $5? — “DON’T SAY THAT PART FIRST!”

Older kid – “we’re starting a business”. Younger kid replies (“IT’S TRASH“)

Are you earning money to buy something? “We’re gonna’ be RICH!”

WHAT WE CAN LEARN:

• (Getting outside their comfort zone) meeting potential clients
•  LIKABLE (people skills)
• Offered something of value
• Asked for the sale
• Asked for the sale again
• (Got the sale)
• Had drive behind what they were doing. “We’re gonna’ be RICH!“
• After I paid them, they “scheduled” next meeting “Thank you sir! See you in 1-week!“

FOLLOWUP

Wednesday, before I left to come speak at this event 2 of them showed up again (just like they said they would).

(Finishing another call with a client.) “Hey! I’ll talk to you guys in a few minutes.”

Few seconds later, doorbell rings again. $1 bill laying there with 2 pieces of candy. Kid says, “we appreciate you.” (told my client I’d call them back/gave their money back).

WHAT WE CAN LEARN:

• (integrity) Did what they said they would do
• (Follow up) Rang the bell again, even after an objection
• Did something that made me feel grateful/ indebted to them. ($1/candy)

ABUSIVE DAD

Got me thinking about how TERRIFIED I was to communicate with ANYONE until I was out of college.

Rough childhood. “Children are to be seen and not heard.” Mom got the courage to leave, my dad later got full custody.

(pistol story)……… Act it out!

“apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” (meaning). I would rather die than turn out to be the same type of man he was. I had ZERO self-esteem.

AMWAY MEETINGS

We got to see mom on visitation. (Suit & Tie from thrift-shop) – HERE’S WHERE MY LIFE CHANGED PERMANENTLY – Taking us to Amway meetings.

(Got us hooked on Dexter Yager, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar, Robert Kiyosaki, John Maxwell cassette tapes & books).

SNEAKING OUT OF SCHOOL

(Story) skipping lunch to save $$$ – How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie – Started devouring personal development books.

WHAT WE CAN LEARN:

• Find a mentor (virtual if not in person)
• Start reading!
• Dress sharp.
• Surround yourself with leaders who are crushing it in life.

COLLEGE

FORCED MYSELF to start talking with people. Grocery store, eye contact. (Stretch yourself) – PROSPECTING

Finished college in 2002 & later started a sports supplement business & a Christian clothing company. Got a partner & launched a cosmetic medical LASER clinic in Evergreen.

With the medical contacts/resources I launched a white label pharmaceutical company.

CANCER DIAGNOSIS

I’ve been diabetic for 38 years & started having seizures when I was 8.

In 2010, I was having 7-10 seizures a week. – Woke up one morning unable to move. (paramedic story)

Lost everything and having to move back to sleep on the floor in Crawford, CO

BEST CELLULAR

Tell story. Mom encouraging me to start another business so I didn’t focus on my “terminal” cancer diagnosis.

WHAT WE CAN LEARN:

• Focus on the potential not the problem

BE PREPARED

I had a major seizure last night at the hotel. They had to send help!

Foggy mind, felt terrible this morning, but I was prepared & (hopefully) this still turned out to be a great message! (Did you enjoy this?)

CONCLUSION

• Real estate can be hard. Life is hard!
• There are industry titans sitting in this room today!
• FIND A MENTOR. Find someone to make you accountable.
• Look for opportunities for personal development!
