SEO got you ranked. M. Curtis McCoy’s GEO services get you cited — inside the AI-written answers your buyers now trust more than any list of links. This is how brands become the source.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of engineering your content, entity, and public proof so generative AI systems — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews — cite you, quote you, and recommend you when they write answers for your buyers.
Classic SEO optimizes for a list of links. AEO optimizes for the answer box. GEO services optimize for the machine that writes the answer itself: what it retrieves, what it trusts, and whose name survives into the final response.

AI retrieves small chunks, not pages. Every section is engineered to stand alone and answer completely.
Your name and your expertise welded together everywhere they appear — so models learn who you are without being told.
Engines cite sources that add something new. Original data, first-hand results, and named frameworks earn citations commodity content never will.
The sentence you want quoted, written to be lifted — and placed directly under the question it answers.
Aligned with verifiable facts, distinct in insight. Outliers get filtered. Originals get quoted.
Reviews, directories, forums, news, video transcripts — presence where models actually learn, not just where Google crawls.
Schema, llms.txt, and clean structure — your site legible to every crawler and AI agent that reads it.
Meaningful updates that trigger re-retrieval. Stale content quietly falls out of AI answers.
Tracking how often each engine cites you versus competitors — and correcting the record at the sources they trust.
A generative engine doesn’t scan ten blue links and pick a winner. It retrieves passages — small, self-contained chunks of content — weighs them against each other, and synthesizes one answer with a handful of citations. That quietly breaks most of the rules you learned:
A page can rank #1 in Google and never once be cited by AI, while a passage buried on somebody’s page three gets quoted verbatim — because it answered one question completely, in one place, in words a machine could lift. Rankings are won by pages. Citations are won by passages, entities, and proof. M. Curtis McCoy’s GEO services are built around that difference.
Retrieval systems judge passages in isolation. If your paragraph says “we install them in three days,” a machine reading that chunk alone doesn’t know who “we” is or what “them” are — so it can’t cite you. In GEO, every important passage restates the entity and the subject by name. It reads slightly redundant to a human. It reads perfectly to a machine.
Decide the exact sentence you want ChatGPT to repeat, then build the section around it: question as the heading, the quotable sentence first, support after. Most content hopes to be summarized. GEO content is written to be lifted.
Unlinked brand mentions in reviews, forums, and news articles do almost nothing for classic SEO — and plenty for generative engine optimization, because language models learn from co-occurrence, not just links. Every place your name appears next to your expertise is a training signal money can’t directly buy.
A generative engine can paraphrase common knowledge without crediting anyone. It cannot use your original data without pointing at you. First-hand results, real project numbers, and named frameworks are the cheapest citations you will ever earn.
Ranking is a page-level contest. Citation is a passage-level contest. A #1 page with meandering sections loses to a focused passage on a weaker site. Audit your content chunk by chunk — not URL by URL.
When an AI engine describes your business wrong, the error lives in what it retrieved — a stale directory, an old bio, a third-party page you forgot existed. M. Curtis McCoy’s GEO services trace every wrong answer back to its source and correct the record where the machines actually read it.
M. Curtis McCoy built his first website in 1995, three years before Google existed. He optimizes for machines the way owners optimize for profit. He built and ranked the website of a nationwide telecom brand that served more than 250,000 customers across all 50 states. He is Editor-in-Chief of News Wire Magazine. He hosts an interview series streaming in 187 countries. Search his name — the Knowledge Panel, the profile pages, the consistent entity data — that is generative engine optimization working in public, on M. Curtis McCoy himself.
On client work, Pencil Log Pros publicly credits M. Curtis McCoy as their Developer & SEO, with a passage-level content architecture behind a 4.9-star Google reviews reputation. His GEO services and AEO services work as one connected system — the entity work that makes a brand recommendable also makes it citable. Want the full program? See the Personal Brand Manager service.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is engineering your content, entity, and public proof so AI systems cite, quote, and recommend you when they write answers for your buyers.
SEO competes for position on a results page. GEO competes for inclusion inside the answer itself. SEO is won by pages and links; GEO is won by passages, entities, and verifiable proof. You need both — rankings feed retrieval, and retrieval feeds citations.
AEO makes you the recommended answer to direct questions. GEO makes you a cited source inside long, synthesized answers. In practice M. Curtis McCoy’s GEO and AEO services run as one connected system — the same entity clarity, proof, and structure power both.
Share of voice across engines: how often ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews mention or cite you versus competitors, how accurately they describe you, and which sources they pull from. Then the numbers that matter — qualified leads, calls, and revenue.
