Why it matters
Some buyers would rather text than call
A buyer at work, on a job site or in a waiting room may not be able to talk. A text message link lets them reach you anyway, and a prefilled message removes the hardest part: knowing what to say.
01
The message is already typed
The sms: link fills in your number and a message like “Hi, I'd like a quote.” The buyer sends it as is or edits it first.
02
Built for iPhone and Android
The tool writes the link in a format both platforms read, and encodes spaces, apostrophes and ampersands so the message arrives intact.
03
Know which page earned the text
Use a different prefilled message on each page, like “Hi, I saw your roofing page.” The first line of every text tells you where the lead came from.

Contact links that don't work cost you leads
M. Curtis McCoy walks through the chain most business owners find one problem at a time: a phone number buyers can't tap, a website that blocks AI assistants, and no structured data telling them who you are. A working text link belongs right next to a working call link.
Where to put it
Where a text button belongs
Copy your link from the SMS link generator above. In Elementor, select a Button widget and paste the Link only output into its Link field. In WordPress blocks, Wix, Squarespace or Shopify, paste it wherever the editor asks for a link.
01
Next to your call button
Put Call and Text side by side in your mobile header. Some buyers call, some text. Give them both.
02
Quote and service pages
Prefill the service name so you know what the buyer wants before you reply.
03
After-hours contact
When nobody can answer the phone, a text waits for you. The buyer doesn't hit voicemail and move on.
Common mistakes
Four mistakes that break text links
The number can't receive texts
Many landlines and some business phone lines can't receive texts. Send yourself a test text from the link before you publish it.
The message is too long
Keep it under 160 characters. Longer messages can split into several parts, and a short opener gets sent more often.
Special characters aren't encoded
Spaces, apostrophes and ampersands typed straight into a link can cut the message short. This tool encodes them for you.
Text is the only option
Pair every text link with a call link. Let the buyer choose how to reach you instead of choosing for them.
FAQ
SMS link generator: common questions
What is an SMS link?
A link that starts with sms: followed by a phone number. Tapping it opens the messaging app addressed to that number, with optional message text already typed.
How do I add a prefilled message to a text link?
Type it in the Prefilled message box of the SMS link generator above. The tool adds it to the link as body text and encodes spaces and punctuation so it arrives exactly as written.
Does an SMS link work on a computer?
It depends on the apps installed. A Mac signed in to Messages can open it. Many computers can't, so keep your number visible as text too.
Can the buyer change the message before sending?
Yes. The message is only a draft. Nothing sends until the buyer taps Send.
Can my business number receive texts?
Not always. Many landlines can't. Tap your new link on your own phone and send yourself a test before you publish it.
Is this SMS link generator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, and your number and message are never sent to our server or saved anywhere.
